Congressman Nathaniel Moran, who represents Texas’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media addressing the recent government shutdown and ongoing funding negotiations.

On September 30, 2025, Moran wrote, “.@HouseGOP did its job. Now it’s time for Democrats to put the American people first and pass the clean, nonpartisan funding bill.”

Later that evening, he added, “It’s the eve of a government shutdown and it’s clear—only Republicans are fighting for the American people. Radical Democrats are holding the federal government hostage with unreasonable demands, instead of supporting a common sense funding bill.” This post came just hours before the shutdown deadline.

Following the official start of the shutdown on October 1, Moran stated, “At 12:01 a.m., the Democrats shut down the government. It’s time for them to vote YES on the clean, nonpartisan CR—just as they did countless times under the Biden Administration.”

Nathaniel Moran has represented Texas’s 1st District since 2023 after succeeding Louie Gohmert. He was elected in 2022 after defeating Jrmar Jefferson with more than three-quarters of the vote. During his tenure in Congress, Moran has consistently voiced positions on fiscal responsibility and bipartisan cooperation.

The current dispute over government funding reflects broader partisan disagreements that have led to previous shutdowns. Continuing resolutions (CRs) have been used in past administrations as temporary measures to keep federal agencies operating while longer-term agreements are negotiated.
