Did you know that we have our own award-winning airport with a 6.000 foot runway and the Mid America Flight Museum right here in Mount Pleasant?
Mount Pleasant City Manager Ed Thatcher had the opportunity to tour this city asset on Monday with Airport Manager Paul Henderson, who has earned the General Aviation Airport Manager of the Year Award from the Aviation Division of TXDOT.
In addition to touring the facilities, Thatcher was treated to a private visit to the museum, which is open to the public on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Started in 2013 by Mount Pleasant resident and businessman, Scott Glover, the museum is a stunning collection of aircraft from a 1925 Waco Nine to the 1951 Grumman Albatross. And everything at the museum flies or is being restored to fly.
“People come from around the world to visit this rare collection, so generously shared by Scott,” said Henderson, who also explained how Glover hosts special events onsite for veterans, including WWII veterans who have flown some of the models in the collection.
The tour got even better when the group ran into Glover, who had just landed his helicopter outside of the museum. After introductions, during which Glover praised the airport and Henderson as being the best in the country, he offered Thatcher a ride on the helicopter. Thatcher said, “yes” and away they soared!
