CITY OF MT. PLEASANT: City Utilities Department is Working Behind the Scenes 24/7 for you

Pleasant

City of Mt. Pleasant issued the following announcement.

Sacrifice. Dedication. Skill. Those are just a few of the words that are used to describe members of the Mount Pleasant Utilities Department.

“Our Utility employees work around the clock 365 days a year to ensure that we have the comfort and convenience of reliable and safe water and sewer service,” said Mayor Tracy Craig, Sr. “They are truly unsung heroes in our community.

The Utilities Department includes 25 staff members working in four different critical areas: Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment and Sanitary Sewer Collection. These employees work across three daily shifts and are on call around the clock, even on weekends and holidays.

“Our employees are top notch and incredibly dedicated. It takes a lot of sacrifice to do this job, and they give up a lot of personal time for our city,” said Anthony Rasor, Director of the Utilities Department.

“If an emergency call comes in to repair a water line or leak, you can bet they’re on it. Even if it’s 2 a.m. and 20 degrees outside,” he said.

Not only are the Utilities employees extremely dedicated, but they are highly trained and licensed to meet local, state and federal requirements. Rasor himself has 34 years of experience and holds four state licenses as a Water Treatment Operator, Wastewater Operater, Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester and Customer Service Inspector.

Simply put, this means Rasor and his team are well equipped to make sure the city’s water and sewer system runs safely and efficiently.

That goes beyond “digging in the muddy trenches” to working in the lab to test water and adjust chemicals; overseeing complicated computer systems; laying water lines; fixing costly leaks; and all kinds of mind-boggling technicalities related to sewer service such as proper grading and elevation.

“On a daily basis, our employees implement the vision of city leaders who have also worked hard through the years to plan and fund an infrastructure that will accommodate a growing community,” said City Manager Ed Thatcher.

This includes the I-30 Water Treatment Facility and the Lake Bob Sandlin Water Treatment facility that came online in 2015. “We now have the capacity to pump 17 million gallons of treated water a day, which is far more than any other city in the region, said Rasor.

Currently, residents and businesses are using 7 to 8 ½ million gallons a day of that capacity, which leaves nearly 9 million gallons in reserve to serve future residents and businesses.

“Mount Pleasant is in an enviable position with plenty of treated water and employees who are committed to giving their best 24/7 to our customers – the great people of Mount Pleasant.”

So give a hug or high five to your favorite Utilities worker today. If you don’t know one, the Utilities Department is happy to schedule a visit or tour. Just call 903-575-4000, ext. 2506 and you’ll reach Amanda Sanders, another hard-working Utilities employee who is happy to help.
