Bowie County joins an ever-growing movement by designating itself a Second Amendment sanctuary.

On Feb. 24, Bowie County Commissioners approved a declaration in support of the Second Amendment, which preserves a citizen's constitutional rights to own and bear arms.

Bowie County Commissioner James Strain says red flag laws and other anti-gun laws are making it tougher for law-abiding citizens to own a firearm. He also assured Bowie County citizens that their Second Amendment rights are being protected.

“What we see, the possibilities of happening, is making it more difficult for good people to own their guns," Strain said. "Those that are not gonna use them properly, they’re gonna find a way to have a gun. We just want to reassure our people that our county is in support of them and keeping their second amendment right to be able to exercise safety of their home, safety of their churches, their school, their children, grandchildren and themselves."
