CITY OF MT. PLEASANT: Severe Weather Preparation

Tornado

City of Mt. Pleasant issued the following announcement.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma communities that were hit by tornadoes and experienced the loss of lives and properties last night.

This is a difficult reminder that even though we are in the midst of a global pandemic, the Texas spring storm season is here as well. Please take time now to register for emergency alerts here at tituscountyalerts.com.

Also, make sure you have a plan to take shelter that everyone in your household understands. This includes:

At Your House: Designate a safe room or an interior room away from windows. Don’t forget pets if time allows. A mobile home is not considered a safe structure. If you live in a mobile home, you need to pay attention to weather alerts and plan to go to a safe structure such as the home of a friend or relative well before the storm is expected. Please note: the Titus Regional Medical Center is not open to the public for sheltering due to COVID-10.

Outside: Seek shelter inside a sturdy building immediately if a tornado is approaching. Sheds, storage facilities, trailers and tents are not safe. If you have time, get to a safe building.

In a Vehicle: Being in a vehicle during a tornado is not safe. The best course of action is to drive to the closest shelter. If you are unable to make it to a safe shelter, either get down in your car and cover your head, or abandon your car and seek shelter in a low lying area such as a ditch or ravine.
