City of Mt. Pleasant issued the following announcement on June 7
Yesterday was a day that I will never forget as our community came together peacefully, and safely in cars, to demonstrate our desire to create stronger relationships based upon understanding and trust.
While we all continue to be outraged by the death of George Floyd and others before him, our Peace Parade was something very different from what we’ve seen in the news. It was an incredibly uplifting and positive experience, and I thank everyone involved for making it a success.
Right before my eyes, I could see expressions light up and body language relax as law enforcement and citizens listened to a message of hope and encouragement, together. Yesterday was only one day, but it’s a day that I believe with all my heart will move us towards a future where we don’t just wish for equality and justice for all. But we live it, because together, we worked for it.
Thank you, Mt. Pleasant, for the privilege of serving as your Mayor. Though the times may be challenging, it’s a tremendous honor to work on your behalf. Community leaders, pastors and law enforcement will continue to meet weekly, as we did leading up to the Peace Parade, to keep the positive momentum sparked yesterday going.
We also continue our work daily in regards to the impact of COVID-19 on our community. Please help us by doing your part to stay safe. That means wear a mask, social distance and wash those hands often.
God Bless You and Your Family,
Mayor Tracy Craig, Sr.
