Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD issued the following announcement.
RETURN-to-SCHOOL FAST FACTS FOR PARENTS AND STAFF
The complete Return-to-School Plan for Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD can be found on the front page of
the district’s website at dlsisd.org. This RTS document was created using the language of both TEA
and the CDC. The following document gives the same information, but in a briefer format. Contact
your student’s principal for more information. Both the RTS and Fast Facts will be updated as
necessary..
REGISTRATION
●Drive-through Registration was held at each campus. However, during the week of August
10-14, parents can pick up a registration packet at any campus and return it as soon as
possible.
●Registration must be completed whether attending in-person or virtual (on-line).
●Principals will contact those who choose Virtual Instruction during the week of August 10-14 to
set up a training with the student and parent.
●Students enrolled in school will have the first three weeks of school to make a firm decision
between In-person or Virtual Learning.
SUPPLIES
The vast majority of school supplies this year will be supplied by the school. PK and K students
should bring a sleeping mat. Elementary students should not bring a back- pack. JH and HS
students may bring a back-pack. All students should bring a water bottle.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Monday, August 17 will be the first day of school for both in person and virtual (on-line) students.
Principals will contact virtual students during the week of August 10-14 to set up a training time for the
parent and the student.
SCHOOL DAY
Students may not be dropped off earlier than 7:30. Teachers will be in rooms at 7:30 ro receive
students. Students will go directly to classrooms and breakfast will be eaten there. Instructional start
time and ending time will be determined by the principal.
FACE COVERINGS FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF
Face coverings are requested for all students PK-12 for times of transition and close contact.
Students in grades 1-12 will be expected to wear a face covering in transition (entry, exit, hallways)
and when social distancing is not possible (unless it is not developmentally inappropriate or there is a
health issue). Exceptions will require a note documenting the need for an exception. A note from a
doctor may be requested. Students will be given “masks breaks” at the teacher’s discretion during
times of social distancing. Face coverings will be required on the bus for grades 1-12 because social
distancing will probably not be possible. The same guidelines will apply as during the school day.
There will be extra masks on the bus for students who may not have one.
All staff will wear a face covering. “Masks breaks” may be taken when not in close contact.
SCREENINGS
All staff members must self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms daily before entering the campus
building. Screeners have been set up for cell phones.
All students must be screened weekly for COVID-19 symptoms. This will be done digitally via
Remind, ClassDoJo, e-mail, telephone calls by the student’s teacher, or possibly in some cases on
paper. Your child’s school will be in touch with you to let you know which method will be used for the
weekly screening. Students will not be able to remain at school without a screener; parents will be
called. It is very important that the school has an updated cell number and email address.
DAILY TEMPERATURE CHECK
All students will have a temperature check before boarding the bus or entering the campus building.
Students with 100 degrees or higher temperature will return home. Parents dropping off students will
wait until temperature check is taken. The bus driver will wait until the student with an elevated
temperature goes back to the house and is received by an adult. The bus monitor will assist in the
temperature check.
COVID-19 PROCEDURES
Students or staff who test positive for COVID-19 or who have come in close contact (within 6 feet for
15 minutes or more) with a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 must contact the school, will be required
to self-quarantine, and must meet the Return-to- School Criteria.
IF A STUDENT BECOMES SICK AT SCHOOL AND EXHIBITS ANY OF THE COVID-19
SYMPTOMS:
1.The student will be separated from others on campus immediately.
2.The student will be evaluated by the nurse or school staff.
3.Upon evaluation, if deemed appropriate, the parent will be called to pick up the student.
Parents must arrive within 30 minutes.
4.The student will be escorted to the vehicle.
5.The remainder of the class will be removed to an alternative setting for the remainder of the
day.
6.In an abundance of caution, the classroom will be deeply cleaned.
7.If the student is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19, close contacts to the student will be
identified and parents will be notified.
8.Any student requiring quarantine will transition to Virtual Learning for the period of
self-quarantine.
RETURN-TO-SCHOOL CRITERIA for Lab-Confirmed or Having Symptoms,
1.At least one day (24 hours) has passed since recovery (resolution of fever without the use of
fever-reducing medications); AND
2.The individual has improvement in symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath); AND
3.At least ten days have passed since symptoms first appeared.
If the individual has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and wants to return to school
before completing the above stay at home period, the individual must either (a) obtain a
medical professional’s note clearing the individual for return based on an alternative diagnosis or (b)
obtain an acute infection test at an approved testing location (https://tdem.texas.gov/covid-19/) that
comes back negative for COVID-19.
RETURN-TO-SCHOOL CRITERIA for an individual who has been identified to be in “close
contact” (within 6 feet of a positive case for a cumulative 15 minutes or directly exposed
through secretions):
●The individual must remain off campus and quarantine for 14 days from the date of last close
contact. The return date will be calculated by school personnel and related to the individual.
NOTIFICATIONS
●School personnel have been given the responsibility of investigating close contact occurring at
school and making the appropriate notifications. This information will be held in strict
confidence and only shared with school personnel who have a need to know.
TRANSPORTATION
●Parent transportation rather than bus transportation will be safer during this time because it will
be difficult to separate students by 6 feet on the bus.
●The bus will be wiped down at the end of each trip, face coverings will be under the same
guidelines as the school day.
●Temperatures will be taken before students board the bus. Students will not be allowed to
board the bus if the temperature is 100 or more. The monitor will see that the student goes
back to the house and is received by an adult.
●Hand sanitizer and masks will be available for students boarding the bus.
●Windows will be lowered as possible depending on the weather to allow better air circulation.
●There will be assigned seating
●Family units must sit together.

3.Coughing (into a tissue or into an elbow)
4.Wearing a face covering
5.Staff will be trained in the Return-to-School Plan safety procedures and protocols.
ADDITIONAL CLEANING
●Shared desks and high classroom touch areas such as door knobs will be disinfected between
class periods under the teacher’s direction.
●Custodial staff will be given additional, specific cleaning duties to be performed on a regular
basis such as restrooms disinfected at least two times a day.
●In addition to regular daily cleaning by custodians, each campus will be sanitized once weekly
and more often if needed.
