Como-Pickton CISD issued the following announcement.
Dear Como-Pickton CISD Family,
This letter is to inform you, following TEA guidelines and CPCISD Back to School Protocols, that we were notified late last night that a high school student received a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19. Though the student has not been in attendance at school since August 18th, we began contacting parents of students who we believe to have been in "close contact" with the student within the last several days of his attendance. We have already contacted those parents and sent them home for self-quarantine. We believe that the exposure was limited and that the rest of our students are safe to remain at school.
In general, close contact is defined as:
a. Being directly exposed to infectious secretions such as being coughed or sneezed on
b. Being within 6 feet for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes; however, additional factors like case/contact masking (i.e., both the infectious individual and the potential close contact have been consistently and properly masked). Ventilation, presence of dividers, and case symptomology may affect this determination.
Either (a) or (b) defines close contact if it occurred during the infectious period of the case, defined as two days prior to symptom onset to 10 days after symptom onset. In the case of asymptomatic individuals who are lab-confirmed with COVID-19, the infectious period is defined as two days prior to the confirming lab test and continuing for 10 days following the confirming lab test.
Our maintenance and custodial staff are doing extensive cleaning and sanitizing of all areas of the campus to make sure that we are providing a safe place for our students to learn.
Please continue to do the daily self-screening of your children before sending them to school. If they are displaying any of the COVID-19 symptoms, please do not send them to school and consult your local physician.
COVID-19 Symptoms for Screening:
• Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.
• Loss of taste or smell
• Cough
• Difficulty Breathing
• Shortness of Breath
• Fatigue
• Headache
• Chills

If you feel that you or your child may have been exposed, you may visit GoGetTested.com or visit the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center in Sulphur Springs Monday through Saturday from 9am - 5pm for a free COVID-19 test.
