CITY OF MT. PLEASANT: Remembering a City Servant

Catholic

City of Mt. Pleasant issued the following announcement.

FORMER CITY MANAGER PASSES AWAY

The City of Mount Pleasant extends its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of former City Manager, Courtney Sharp, who passed away on December 5 in Midland, Texas. Mr. Sharp was 53 and had served as City Manager in Midland for the past 12 years.

Mr. Sharp was the City Manager of Mount Pleasant from 2004 until 2008, during which time many significant achievements occurred working with the City Council that benefitted the City’s park, water and sewer, and street systems including the construction of the Lake Bob Sandlin Water Treatment Plant.

He was also instrumental in spurring regional economic development through projects like extending the Regional Airport’s runway to 1,000 feet, creating the Business Park, building railroad spur to attract major employers, and the  initial work to construct a $150 million loop around the East and West sides of the City.

“Courtney’s time with our city was very fruitful, and it says a lot about his accomplishments that he moved from a community of our size to Midland,” said Former Mayor Jerry Boatner, who served during Mr. Sharp’s tenure.

“He was a calm and confident professional who worked well with citizens and staff,” said Former Mayor Boatner. “He was very well liked, and it’s tragic to lose him at such a young age. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues throughout the state who also admired and appreciated him.”
