Morris County County’s student body comprised mostly of white students in 2021-22 school year

Of the many ethnicities represented in Morris County County schools, the most prevalent ethnic group among students enrolled in Morris County County schools in 2021-22 school year were white, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 1,862 students attending Morris County County schools, 46.2% were white. Black students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 26.3% of Morris County County students.

In the previous school year, white students still were the most common group in Morris County County, representing 48.4% of the student body.

Pewitt Junior High School and Daingerfield Junior High School had the most diverse student body in Morris County County, including white, American Indian, Black, Asian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and Multi-racial.

In the 2021-22 school year, the total number of students enrolled in public schools in the county dropped 2.9% when compared to the previous year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

“The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students…dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools…gun violence, and mental health issues,” claimed the Texas Almanac.
