Rep. Pat Fallon from Texas has formally requested a briefing from Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin concerning the United States' hypersonic ground test facilities and infrastructure. This request highlights the urgency for enhancing U.S. hypersonic weapon development due to increasing global threats. Fallon was joined in this initiative by Representatives Don Bacon, Vince Fong, and Doug Lamborn.
Fallon emphasized the significance of hypersonic missiles in modern warfare, citing recent events: "Yesterday's large scale Iranian missile attack on Israel, coupled with the ongoing defensive role of US forces in the Middle East should serve as a reminder that hypersonic missiles are playing an increasingly important role in today's conflicts." He further stressed the importance of prioritizing U.S. hypersonic weapon development as adversaries like China advance their capabilities. Fallon stated, "For this reason, we have requested the DOD provide an update on our existing hypersonic capabilities, ongoing testing efforts, as well as how it plans to integrate advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence into future missile systems."
