Today, Rep. Pat Fallon from Texas announced his support for the Family Farm and Small Business Exemption Act. The bill aims to assist farmers and rural families by adjusting how financial aid eligibility is calculated for students pursuing higher education.
Rep. Fallon expressed his enthusiasm for the legislation, stating, "I’m proud to cosponsor the reintroduction of the Family Farm and Small Business Exemption Act." He highlighted that the bill would ensure non-liquid assets like equipment and inventory are not considered when assessing a student's financial aid eligibility. According to Fallon, these assets are essential for business operations and should not affect financial aid opportunities. "By restoring this exemption," he added, "we give students from family farms and small businesses a better opportunity to pursue higher education."
The bill was introduced in the U.S. Senate by Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa.
