Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD issued the following announcement on May 13.

DHS GRADUATION PLANS ANNOUNCED

Please read these details.

Wednesday, May 13, 2020

Dear Tiger Family,

We are pleased to be able to announce that the DHS graduation will be held at the Mickey Mayne Stadium at 8:00 on Friday, May 22.  Each senior will be given 14 tickets to invite family and friends.  Seniors may pick these tickets up at the high school drive-through on Thursday, May 14 from 10:00-12:00.  Admittance to graduation will require a ticket.

The plan for the graduation which includes reduced seating, social distancing, and screening for corona symptoms had to be approved through the county judge according to state guidelines.  The gate to the stadium will not open until 7:00.  Guests should remain in vehicles until the gate is opened.  Both sides of the stadium will be used.  Seating will begin on the home side.

Family groups of five may sit together without social distancing.  Family groups of more than five should break up into smaller groups.  There should be six feet between groups. There will be school personnel to aid in seating and distancing.

Following the ceremony, the guests will remain in the stands until the seniors have exited the field.  The stands will then be dismissed by sections.   Even though we must abide by the six foot distancing, exiting will flow pretty quickly because the stands will be directed to three different exits.  Guests are requested to leave the parking lot and not congregate upon exiting the field.

Although graduation will be somewhat different this year than in the past, at this point we feel very blessed to be able to bring this group of seniors back together, have the ceremony on the football field, and have it in the month of May. It will require cooperation from all and I am sure that we can do it.

This graduating class is an outstanding group of young people and they have already shown how resilient they are by the manner in which they have accepted the circumstances they have been dealt over the last two months. Some seasons and activities have been cut short, others never really started, and overnight they transitioned from attending class each day to completing independent studies with very little assistance from school.  Yet, as I have seen them out and about, they still have smiles on their faces and they have pushed through.  They have demonstrated Tiger Pride at its best.  I am proud of each one and their accomplishments.  I’m looking forward to seeing them all one more time as a group on the field at graduation.

If you have any questions, call the high school office, 903-645-3968 or the Administration Building, 903-645-2239.  We’ve worked to make this graduation as memorable as possible and within the necessary guidelines.
