The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will send an additional $300,000 to Texarkana for its ongoing efforts to redevelop sites rendered unusable by contamination from a previous use.

The Texarkana Gazette recently reported that the $300,000 coming to the local community comes as part of a $6.9 million supplemental extension of the loan program for communities that have performed well with existing sites.
The new funds will got toward the redevelopment of three locations: the historic Union Station, the northwest portion of the former Kerr Magee/Tronox Facility, and the former Sears building.
Examples cited by the Gazette as previous successful renovations funded with program money include the Hotel Grim and the former Texarkana National Bank.
