An East Texas county’s unemployment rate continues to plunge.
Bowie County Judge Bobby Howell told ArkLaTex Homepage the figure fell to 11.2% in May, down from 13.6% in April.
While the Bowie County Commissioners Court received a clean audit report for last year, Howell expressed caution about the future.
“We have some concerns of what will happen for our next fiscal year, which starts Oct. 1 and goes into 2021,” Howell told ArkLaTex. “I think we’re looking at decreased revenue for the next fiscal year and maybe beyond that.”
The Commissioners Court also passed the budget for a $92,000 federal grant to help defray extra costs of upcoming elections during the COVID-19 pandemic.
