Paris City Council members all voted “yes” for updates to Paris’ wastewater treatment plant that will cost roughly $76 million.
That number seems striking to the Paris Chamber of Commerce. It’s still not clear how many gallons of wastewater per day the $76 million will pay for once the project is complete. At the same time, the hefty price tag is raising eyebrows as other cities are paying much less for similar treatments.
For example, Bonham paid $15.4 million for a 6 million gallons per day plant, while Tarrant County’s cost of $22 million facilitated 87 million gallons per day.
“How can other towns build new plants for less money than Paris, and still have cheaper water and sewer rates?” the Chamber of Commerce asked on its website.
It went on to question whether the Council members solicited for different bids, and what the average bid was. Lastly, the Chamber asked if the City Council only considered one firm, why that was.
