There were 329 African American students enrolled in Jefferson ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 1.5% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Jefferson ISD schools welcomed 1,132 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 29.1% of the student body to be one of the most represented ethnicities in the district.

Jefferson ISD roughly covers schools within Marion County and has a main office in Jefferson.

Among the four schools in Jefferson ISD schools, Jefferson High School recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 126 students.

Texas is found to be one of the least-educated states in the U.S. A study from WalletHub ranked Texas 41st out of 50 states in terms of the quality of the educational system and how successful students were.

More than 5.4 million students are enrolled in public schools across Texas. Nearly one million of them live in rural areas where options for local public schools are few and far between.
