There were 130 Hispanic students enrolled in Pewitt CISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 3.7% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Pewitt CISD schools welcomed 833 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, Hispanic students comprised 15.6% of the student body to be one of the most represented ethnicities in the district.

Pewitt CISD roughly covers schools within Morris County and has a main office in Omaha.

Among the three schools in Pewitt CISD schools, Pewitt Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of Hispanic students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 70 students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
