How many American Indian students were enrolled in Mount Pleasant ISD schools in 2022-23 school year?

There were eight American Indian students enrolled in Mount Pleasant ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 166.7% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Mount Pleasant ISD schools welcomed 5,186 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.2% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Mount Pleasant ISD roughly covers schools within Titus County and has a main office in Mount Pleasant.

Among the nine schools in Mount Pleasant ISD schools, Vivian Fowler Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of four students.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
