The East Texas Council of Governments has allocated $2.1 million in grants to improve public safety and support crime victims in the region, with Camp County among the 29 recipients.

The county of approximately 13,100 people will receive $55,000 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant for an acquisition project.

“Every year, the Office of the Governor solicits Criminal Justice funding opportunities which are invaluable to the region. Criminal Justice funding helps multiple agencies like law enforcement, local nonprofits, District Attorney offices, Juvenile Probation Departments, and victims of crime,” ETCOG Public Safety Director Stephanie Heffner said in a press release. “This funding is essential to enable our law enforcement to serve East Texas better.”

ETCOG’s Public Safety Division helps jurisdictions with the application process every year. The ETCOG Criminal Justice Advisory Committee ranks and scores each application.
